The Product
Find a therapist is a website/app that makes it easy for the user to search, through its database and find a a therapist.

Project Duration

April 2022 – June 2022.

The Problem

In Jamaica, there are not proper channels for mental health services. You can get a therapist through referral and normally therapy is a bit expensive.  The plan is to develop a website that makes it easily accessible  for the average person .

The Goal
Build a website and app, that has resources to a majority of mental health professionals around the island.

My Role
Lead UX Designer/ Researcher

Responsibilities

Wireframing, prototyping, researching.

Understanding the User

Personas

Picture
Therapy in the Caribbean is something that is very taboo and has a lot of negative stigma attached to it.  Through some quick surveys I sought to find how the average Jamaican views therapy and the experience they’ve had with it.
Overall a lot of people would like access to therapy but find that in general it is too expensive for them to do it on a continuous basis.  Problems this website/app plans to solve.

User Journey Maps

The Sitemap

The site would be simple. The homepage, a directory where you can search for the mental health prof you need.  And a contact us page for any questions.

Wireframes

Usability Study

Picture
We did an unmoderated user study remotely with 5 participants for 20-30 minutes to see how users reacted to the app. Also we were trying to ascertain any pain points people would have with the app and website so far.

The Findings
What we found that overall the app was simple in finding the therapists but confusing in how to pay the therapists or how to pay in general.

Mockups

Hi Fidelity Prototypes

Picture
I did 2 mockups; the computer screen and the mobile app user flow. I normally do my designs in Figma because its easier to use but did it in Adobe XD for this project.
The design is very straight forward and I enjoyed it. You can test the app out Here

Accessiblity Options

I would leave that to the dev team to develop some audio plugins for the visually impaired as well as captions for the hearing impaired.

IN CONCLUSION

Impact:

Over all users loved the idea of the app and how easy it is to use.

What I learned:

I learned how vital mental health checkups is out here. And how great the experience is of starting a design revising it and creating a better experience for users. This case study inspired me to create to the point that I built a website called TherapyJa dedicated to being a resource for mental health doctors and advocates within the Caribbean.
Its not an actual app yet. But the website is the first step.
